From the land of Konya in Turkey, birth place of Rumi, comes a ‘Whirling Dervish’
The greatest poet Rumi, a 13th-century Persian poet and Sufi mystic, whose poetry transcended cultures, religions and languages, began this meditative twirling with poetry and dance.
‘Whirling dervishes’ turn or whirl continuously as a form of dikhr, which is remembrance of God. This movement was founded by the followers of Rumi.
UNESCO called this a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
Sufi dervishes perform this meditative dance by repeatedly twirling on their feet. This is also believed to be symbolic imitation of planets in the solar system, orbiting the sun.
From the Turki Collection, this meticulously handmade sculpture in brass, rotates when given a slight tug. It is created in two pieces to enable the body of the dancer to turn on a pivoted base.

Use soft, dry cloth to remove any loose dirt. Gently wipe with sponge in warm water and mild dish soap. Use a clean, dry cloth to buff the gold-plated brass gently. This can help restore shine. Do not use abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, or harsh chemicals, as they can scratch or damage the gold plating.
