This iconic Dancing Girl, carved in wood is inspired by the historic bronze figurine that dates back to approximately 2300–1750 BC. It is an example of the Harappan civilization's artistic sophistication and knowledge of metallurgy
The girl, wearing a number of bangles and a necklace is in a natural standing position with one hand on her hip. She has her long hair styled in a big bun that is resting on her shoulder.
The statue is believed to have been created as a symbol of fertility, as the dance was associated with the celebration of life and the harvest season.
She is a fine example of Indus Valley art and is widely recognised for fluidity and realism. It depicts beauty and freedom of movement as well as joy and liberation that comes with dance.
Historic, artistic and inspiring.
